The Typical AdSense Publisher
The Typical AdSense PublisherThe first part of our study looked at a variety of demographics to work up a profile of what might be considered a typical AdSense Publisher with a year or less experience.
Of those participating, we found that on average, 73% are male, married with at least one child or other dependent in the household (excluding spouses) and their average age is 44-years-old. Interestingly enough, 77% are the primary earners in their household and their AdSense earnings account for 22% of their total household income. The numbers being reported start to make some sense when we look at their education (an average of 3.82 years of University), computer experience (an average of 14.22 years, primarily in a work environment) and their proficiency in using a computer (self-rated at the Intermediate level on average). What’s especially interesting about this is that 75% of these AdSense Publishers are self-taught computer users with at most, an occasional course in using a specific application such as Microsoft Word or Excel. In comparing other factors it becomes clear that those who had no formal computer training were also consistently the highest earners. Another encouraging trend we saw is that these folks have been involved with Internet Marketing for less than 3 years, and self-rated their proficiency in IM at slightly below average, so they're not starting out with special IM knowledge. The picture that begins to emerge from this data is simply that, although they are not IM “Gurus”, they’ve got the ambition and patience to pursue a revenue stream successfully and are self-reliant enough to learn and use the information at hand for their own financial gain. Do you fit that profile? A surprisingly large number of people do and yet they still fail to take advantage of one of the most reliable and passive forms of income available on the Internet today!
